The MIL Command Status test determines if the Check Engine Light should be illuminated due to a problem. If the MIL is commanded “OFF,” the vehicle will pass the test. If the MIL is commanded “ON,” or commanded to flash, the vehicle fails with a severe problem that may damage the catalytic system. If the MIL is commanded “OFF,” but codes are also stored, the vehicle still passes. Inactive codes are not a cause for failure.
