A verbal explanation is necessary if a customer’s vehicle fails as a result of tamper. The goal of the verbal explanation is to help the customer understand why their vehicle failed and what to do next. Do not accuse the customer of modifying their vehicle or breaking the law, as may things can fall under the definition of ‘tampering’ during an emissions test. simply inform them of the cause of failure and answer their questions if possible.
