When an engine or system problem occurs, the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) illuminates. If the problem is severe, MIL will flash to indicate conditions that could damage the catalyst. The MIL indicator is also known as the Check Engine Light.
The MIL Inspection screen instructs to remove the vehicle key from the ignition and wait at least 30 seconds. After at least 30 seconds has elapsed, insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the RUN position, but do not start the engine. Observe the MIL light and ensure that it illuminates. It may disappear quickly, which is normal—this part of the test ensures that the light is functional.
If the MIL indicator illuminated or blinked for any amount of time, select ‘YES’ on the MIL Bulb Entry Screen. If the MIL indicator did not come on at all, select ‘NO’ as the MIL indicator has malfunctioned. A vehicle with a malfunctioning MIL indicator will fail the test.
