Background

The first portion of the tailpipe test is the High-Speed Test, which is designed to simulate typical driving conditions. To carry out this test, slowly bring the engine RPMs up to between 2,200 and 2,800 and allow the analyzer to operate until prompted to continue. During this test, observe for signs of visible smoke. Only smoke coming from the tailpipe or crankcase will case failure during this test. If smoke is observed coming from the engine bay, make sure it wasn’t caused by an oil leak.
