Nevada 1G Inspectors are required to determine the vehicle make, model, and model year. The VIN number can be used to determine this information if it’s not available in other places. Remember, date of manufacture may not necessarily correspond to model year. For example, some vehicles produced for the 1997 model year may have been labeled with a ‘Date of Manufacture’ in December of 1996. For the purposes of emissions testing, the model year— 1997—will be recorded, not the year the vehicle was manufactured.
