Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) determines the maximum operating weight of a vehicle. The GVWR is a vehicle’s Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. Gross Vehicle Weight is determined by the vehicle manufacturer under conditions where the vehicle is completely loaded with passengers, fuel, and cargo. The GVW is not the curb weight of the vehicle under normal conditions, nor does it reflect what the vehicle weighs when it shows up for an emissions test. The Analyzer will prompt inspectors to enter the vehicle’s GVW during the emissions test. The vast majority of passenger vehicles have a GVW of less than 8,499.
The GVWR is located on the VIN plate inside the drivers side door jamb, in the top right corner.
