A commonly-used component to tamper with the EGR System is called an ‘EGR delete’ or block-off plate. This common device can be found covering the area where the EGR Valve used to be. Other signs of tampering include unusual spacers, misplaced vacuum lines, cut wires, or other obvious modifications.
A typical block-off plate. Most block-off plates are bought online from specialty racing and aftermarket car parts sites. Block-off plates are legal to use on closed tracks only. Some older vehicles may not require an EGR valve, but one is still present. In these rare cases, a block-off plate would be acceptable.
